The Hadleigh Community Group has now been going for 6 years.
We were created following an online chat with a few residents of Hadleigh who wanted to improve the Christmas Lights that Hadleigh town centre had in previous years.
Our first meeting in the Castle pub in January 2017 was attended by just ten residents, people who were, and still are, involved in many other community organisations namely Church, gardening and council groups, and Karen & Kevin.
Our successes:
We were created following an online chat with a few residents of Hadleigh who wanted to improve the Christmas Lights that Hadleigh town centre had in previous years.
Our first meeting in the Castle pub in January 2017 was attended by just ten residents, people who were, and still are, involved in many other community organisations namely Church, gardening and council groups, and Karen & Kevin.
Our successes:
- • Purchased 30 sets of Christmas lights on lampposts across the town centre.
- • The Victoria House roundabout Christmas Tree, sponsored by Stibbards & Sons.
- • Hadleigh Fire Station Christmas Tree, sponsored by First 4 Feet.
- • Purchased 54 Flower baskets for the lamp posts across the town.
- • The Remembrance Day poppies and solider.
- • The Outdoor Gym in John Burrows park.
- • The Hadleigh Community Summer Fayre.
- • A number of fairs at Hadleigh Old Fire Station.
- • Successfully co-ordinated the SAVE HOFS campaign & Petition.
- Stibbards & Sons taking sponsorship of Victoria House roundabout.
- • Helping the Benfleet Christmas Action Group with their Christmas street lighting scheme.
- - Coordinating the Christmas lights switch-on, with St. James the Less church and the carol service.
- • Applying for nearly 20 grants and obtaining 14 totaling £40k all of which has been used to improve our town.
- • Trying to get 3 defribulators installed across town, but the shop owners would not agree to the placement of the units.
- • Liaising with Castle Point Council (CPBC) with the 2022 Welcome Back fund.
- - Liaising with Rayleigh and Leigh town councils helping them with their flower basket schemes.
- • Obtaining CPBC approval that should The Castle pub be put up for sale we would get the opportunity to purchase it as an asset of community value. This was done to stop developers from getting their greedy hands on the site.
